With the doomsday source port and doom high res mod, classic doom can be updated with hd textures and models. If something is better than the low res original, which any higher res version taht is similar to the original would be, then it makes sense to replace the original with an updated version, regardless of how much better it looks, as long as it is better and resembles the original to a degree.
